Angelo Bromet, co-founder of Prospect Eleven and a seasoned entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience, shares insights into his journey connecting young people with the industry in Amsterdam Zuidoost.
Interview with Angelo Bromet
Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Angelo Bromet, I live in Amsterdam Zuidoost. I am co-founder of prospect eleven and a number of other educational programs in which we connect young people to the industry. I’ve been doing that for quite a few years, I’ve been working as an entrepreneur for more than 25 years. In the past 15 years, I have fully focused on Amsterdam-Zuidoost.
What does Prospect eleven stand for?
The prospect stands for “those who have a chance” And eleven stands for the zip code area. Prospect eleven is committed to bridging the disconnect between communities and industries.
Can you tell me more about your carrier/background?
My brother rapped since he was young, and I always went to places with him. I met a lot of people who were active in the music industry in this way. I then put myself into it while watching from the sidelines. At one point I noticed that they were getting stuck. Then I started looking at what difference I could make in the professional field. I have started a joined venture with some guys I know. I did the business part and they did the artistic part. Together we went into the industry and looked at how we could create opportunities. That has been further developed over the years and I started working as a programmer. My position in that has shifted a bit every time. From representing the artists to fully representing the industry side.
Why did you choose to collaborate with IMI Lab?
That has a number of reasons. Firstly, I enjoy being present in the development process of young people. In recent years I have mainly done that 1 on 1 and together with my team. I did more and more projects and I had less and less time. But since I still think it is very important, entering into a collaboration with the IMI lab was a good alternative. I also find it interesting that these are bigger issues than those I normally tackle with my own organization. Now we can both solve the problem and collaborate with the desired target group.
What is your favorite music genre?
I come from hip-hop but I prefer to listen to acoustic stuff. More songwriters, that’s where you hear the raw talent the most.
Do you make music yourself?
No, apart from guiding artists, I’m not going to try it out if it’s something for me. For me, hip-hop is also much more than music. It is making something out of nothing.
Do you have an inspiring quote?
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” I think that’s a very nice one. It also applies to the work I do. I notice that those who are naturally talented are often mentally not always the easiest people. They are often a bit lazy. Those who are aware of their weaknesses sometimes work much harder. They will have a better chance then. It’s not always about being better, so that person can achieve much more.
